8 reasons why #ranchlife during the summer is awesome!
#1 Branding
To kick off the summer, there’s no better feeling of accomplishment than gathering all the babies to put your “stamp of pride” on them.
#2 The Sunsets
Try to beat a summer sunset on a ranch. I dare you.
#3 Preparing for Winter, AKA Haying
No matter the season, you are always preparing for the future. Nothing smells better than fresh-cut alfalfa!
#4 Weaning Time
It’s time for the babies to be independent. Even though this may cause them to to through their “gangly teenage stage.” I love seeing how many calves we wean – especially if one had a rough start and seeing how much they’ve improved.
#5 Farm-Fresh Produce
Corn, tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, squash…the list goes on and on! We LOVE fresh vegetables for lunch, dinner and sometimes even breakfast!
#6 Thunderstorms
Cross your fingers this converts to rain, especially on those days when it’s 105+ degrees. Any rain is good rain!
#7 Taking Care of The Land
If you take care of the land, it will take care of you. This means a lot of hours spent horseback moving cattle from pasture to pasture by using the rotational grazing method.
#8 Rebirth
Not only is the grass growing lusciously from the storms (and maybe a little irrigating), bulls are also rebreeding cattle for the next generation of calves.
