Ranch House Designs, Inc.RHD Blog

2020 is here which not only means a new year, but also a new decade! As we turn the page on a new year, our team put together some names we believe will be popular in show barns this year. We  know each of our four-legged companions tend to have a personality of their own, which they often get based on what we choose to name them. So, as you name your new animals this year, choose wisely!

In honor of the roaring 20s, some names we love this year include:

  • Gatsby
  • Daisy
  • Fitzgerald
  • Old Sport

With the new Top Gun movie, we can image these names will be quite popular too:

  • Maverick
  • Goose
  • Iceman
  • Hollywood
  • Viper
  • Phoenix
  • Slayer
  • Warlock
  • Vicking
  • Coyote

Let’s be honest, superhero obsessions are never bad and probably never going out of style. Naming your steers with strong names after superheroes can really bring on their personality.

If you’re still stuck consider adding a formal title to your show calf’s name. Say you like the name “Tom.” Add some fun titles like:

  • Mayor Tom
  • President Tom
  • Ambassador Tom
  • The Honorable Tom
  • The Lady Tomasina
  • Private Tom
  • Doctor Tom

Using the animal’s color can always be a good idea if you want to go with something more classic:

  • Sugar
  • Snowball
  • Snow White
  • Yellow Jacket
  • Golden Phoenix
  • Smoky Dan
  • Steely Dan
  • Midnight
  • Blacky

And, if you’re from the south, you can always throw in a southern prefix for an endearing name:

  • Sweetie
  • Sweetie Pie
  • Sweetheart
  • Sweet ______ (sweet works with anything really)
  • Dear Old _________
  • Lovely ________
  • Honey Bear
  • Honey
  • Honey Boo
  • Baby
  • Baby Cake
  • Sugar

Hopefully these gave you some ideas! What will you be naming your cattle this year?
