Old School Still Works

Back to School. Back to Landlines. Back to Basics.

Next week we officially go “back to school” and you may have heard about the new Texas laws restricting cell phone use during the school day. No cell phones at all.

My teenage daughter (and let’s be honest — me too) is in full panic mode.

We’ve gotten used to the convenience of texting during the day — whether it’s sending a quick “good luck on your test” or the classic “did you remember your lunch?” But now? It’s back to the basics.

During a little meltdown, I casually said, “I made it through high school and college without a cell phone, and you can too.”

Mollie looked at me in shock, as we reminisced that I didn’t get my first actual mobile cell phone until I started grad school at Michigan State in 2001. When she asked, “Mom, how did you even stay in touch with your friends without a cell phone?” — it hit me.

It was the landline.
It was MSN Messenger (and our cryptic ‘status’ settings.)
Logging on once or twice a day to see who had emailed me.
Researching things on websites.

And you know what? Some of those things still work. Sometimes, better than ever.

In a world full of noise and distractions, old-school communication tools — like a clean, clear, and well-branded website — are making a comeback. Especially when your audience is sitting in class with no phone… but a with Chromebook and Google access.

So whether you’re building a brand, selling livestock, promoting your farm store, or just making sure the next generation can actually find your business — it’s time to invest in your digital presence.

  • Professional website design
  • SEO that makes you Google-able
  • Email marketing campaigns that get opened
  • Branding that sticks
