In October 2025, Rachel Cutrer was honored by Texas A&M University as an “Honorary Survivor” of the very demanding Ag Economics 425 program, taught by Dr. Ed Rister. This is nearly a 2 year program in which students develop an intense business plan and eventually compete in somewhat of a Shark Tank for rural entrepreneurship. Those students who successfully complete the program are called “Survivors” due to the rigor of the program.
Rachel was awarded the Honorary Survivor for her many years of mentorship to students in the program and over a decade of serving as “Prof for a Day” to the students.
At this fall’s lectureship, Rachel shared with students her journey of founding Ranch House Designs and BRC Ranch, two thriving businesses she built from the ground up.
“Do not let other people’s definition of size, risk, expectations, or time frames define you,” Rachel said.
Key points of her lecture included:
– Be original and trust your instincts.
– Define your niche and focus on the people who truly value your product.
– Success in small towns comes from work ethic and strong relationships.
– Faith, family, and helping others lead to lasting success.
Owen Sanders, a 2025 “Survivor” made the presentation.
