What Does It Cost to Build a Website For Your Farm?

Rachel CutrerRHD Blog

Farmers and ranchers love budgets and spreadsheets. They can tell you the price of cattle and corn at a moments notice. But, when it’s time to invest money in their marketing, that’s when ranchers and farmers (and any business really) can be at a loss.

Our general recommendation is that a business should invest at minimum 1 to 3% of their annual gross sales back into marketing. And that’s a conservative investment. Some firms who want to be more aggressive in marketing may allocate even up to 10% of gross sales to go into their marketing program.

When it comes to what it costs to build a website for a farm or ranch, you’re usually looking at two phases: design and maintenance.

Your design fee is going to be a one time fee, usually paid up front or over a period of time while the website is being developed. Our pricing for websites starts at $900 for a one time fee. We ask for a 50% deposit to begin.

Website is based around a combination of pages, time, and features. A basic website that really just needs a few pictures, text and a phone number is going to be a lot cheaper to design because it doesn’t require a lot of time, doesn’t have a lot of pages, and doesn’t really require any special features.

On the other hand, a website with a lot of custom features, plug-ins, and a lot of pages is going to take more time, thus cost more.

We offer 3 basic packages for websites based on 5 pages, 10 pages, and 11+ pages. Anything that has 11+ pages is what we consider a custom bid.

Now when we say “pages” – we aren’t talking about an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. We are talking about basically links or items in your navigation. So for example, your home page is one page. An about us page is another page. A history page is another. However those pages can be any length you want. It isn’t limited to what can fit on a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.

Sometimes clients want to sell online. This is another “feature” of a website. We offer online store packages from $700 and up. We use Shopify as our online store platform, and so you will also have a monthly fee from Shopify as well as any credit card processing fees.

Once the website is launched, then you begin your updates and maintenance phase. For clients who want to update, we have an unlimited updates plan which starts at $800 per year that covers the hosting and updates.

All of our websites are built in WordPress, which means you have available a lot of plug ins that can be integrated into your site. So if you can dream it, we can build it.
