Ag Blogs to Follow

Fun (kind of embarrassing) fact about me: I love to read. This makes the internet a giant black hole for my time because one click on a Facebook link and all of a sudden I look up from my phone or computer and I’ve downloaded an ebook, read several articles and hours of time have passed. I’ve always been this way (here comes the embarrassing part) when I was little, in order to punish me, my parents grounded me from reading. Yes, they took away books as a punishment. However, today my love of words keeps me up to date with what is happening in the world and I learn a ton from the numerous blogs, books and articles I read. So for those of you who are looking for something good to read with an agriculture twist, I’ve compiled a list of a few of my personal favorite Ag blogs, that I hope you’ll enjoy as well.

NURSE LOVES FARMER

A nurse who married a farmer and her whole life changed. She doesn’t always blog about agriculture, but when she does, you’ll definitely want to read! This blogger is based in Canada so she gives a little different perspective than American farmers and it’s always interesting to learn what she has to say.

AGRICULTURE PROUD

If you are in the beef world and haven’t read any of Ryan’s posts, it’s time to get on the band wagon. Passionate about the cattle industry and agvocating, his posts about livestock, agriculture and beef are always insightful.

CRYSTAL CATTLE

Recommended for the ag girl who is not afraid to be girly. If you love fashion, makeup and cattle (especially Herefords), you’ll enjoy Crystal’s blog.

DAIRY CARRIE

Insight into life as a Wisconsin dairy farmer. She’s funny, educational and inspiring. Also, she’s really fun to follow on Facebook, check out her recent Facebook Live broadcasts! For someone like me who has no background at all in dairy, I learn a ton from Dairy Carrie!

BUZZARD’S BEAT

Rodeo, food, agriculture, cattle, travel and a LOT of sass. A Kansas cowgirl, she’ll bring you insightful thoughts like “Marriage is Not Like Pizza” and give you an excuse to eat at Wendy’s.

THE PINKE POST

If you are a rural mom, I guarantee that you’ll like reading what Katie Pinke has to say. She blogs about life on the North Dakota prairie and weaves in words about her faith, family heritage and agriculture.

THE FARMER’S LIFE

This blog is a peek into the life of a grain farmer. He talks about life on the farm, teaching people about corn, agriculture and answers difficult questions like in his recent post on what’s in a Monsanto contract.

PRAIRIE CALIFORNIAN

A North Dakota farm wife who blogs about agriculture and shares tons of yummy looking recipes. The food photos are mouth-watering. Plus she loves gluten as much as I do and that makes her a must-read for me.

SUCCESS IS REASON ENOUGH

I’m partial to this one because she’s located in Easter Oregon (where I grew up) and she writes about cattle. Darcy blogs about life in Eastern Oregon raising registered Charolais and she always seems to have excellent photos to accompany her posts.

FARM PROGRESS – MY GENERATION

So… this isn’t necessarily a stand alone blog, it’s more of a column that I can read online, but the way Holly Spangler writes about rural life is amazing. Her tales of farm life in Illinois, will make you laugh and possibly cry.

KIDS, COWS AND GRASS

Life on a Kansas cattle ranch. Join Debbie for her adventures as an Angus rancher, farm mom and passionate advocate for the beef industry and organ donation.

This list only has a few and I know there are SO many more great Ag blogs out there! What’s your favorite? Tell us in the comments, or feel free to share your own blog!
