This spring, I had the opportunity to serve as a teacher at the First Colony Church youth ministry program, teaching on the topic of social media for Christian teens. With my background as the CEO of Ranch House Designs, I was so thankful for this opportunity to use some of my business skills to share some of my knowledge with such amazing young people.
When I first agreed to teach the class, I thought, surely there is some pre-set content about this online and I’ll just google it and use that as a teaching outline.
Surprisingly, I didn’t find anything.
So, I sat down and created an outline for what turned out to be a great class, discussing an overview of social media for Christian teens. This particular class was a 45-minute class and included a good mix of interaction and discussion. I think each of the parts though could be expanded a little to make it a series, if you are looking to make it a multi-class series.
Also, if you have a local group or even a agricultural group and you’re looking for a speaker or presenter on this topic, depending on the location I would be happy to come lead this class for your civic group or school. It can also be adapted to fit more specific areas like, social media for livestock showmen, social media for sports enthusiasts. I think the Biblical base is so important to whatever type of organization that might look to use this content.
I am happy to share this content, in hopes that it might be useful for anyone else looking for some Bible based curriculum to teach social media for Christian teens. Everyone is welcome to use this content, and graphics. I am including a PDF of the full teaching outline and graphic, but here is an overview of what the curriculum includes:
Social Media For Christian Teens Class Outline
- Part 1: Social Media & Your Faith – Who Are You Online?
- Part 2: The Dangers and Discernment of Social Media
- Part 3: Using Social Media for Good
- Part 4: (Wrap Up) – The Top Misconceptions about Social Media
- Handout: Social Media for Christian Teens
Again, I found this class to be one that the students really enjoyed, and I am hoping that this content helps others share a Biblical base to such an important topic to our young people.
I welcome any comments / suggestions / feedback of how this could be improved. My email is rachel@ranchhousedesigns.com.
