Hi there,
I’m Rachel Cutrer, and I’m as loyal as they come. I’ve eaten breakfast at McDonald’s every morning for the last 25 years. I love their food, their consistency, and yes, even their marketing. But recently, their bags have me in a bit of a funk.
The bags, themed for football season, proudly say: “Tradition is Everything.”
Now, don’t get me wrong—I love tradition. From Aggie traditions to Christmas traditions, I’m all in. But when it comes to marketing, I don’t believe tradition is everything. In fact, sometimes it’s the thing holding you back.
Just because you’ve always done things a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the best way to grow your business today.
Here’s what I mean:
- Tradition: Run an ad in a magazine and spend $10,000 to print and mail sale catalogs.
- What We Did: Built ranchers websites and posted catalogs online—saving fortunes and reaching wider audiences.
- Tradition: Sell cattle by letting buyers “pick any heifer in the pen for $5,000.”
- What We Did: Held online auctions, where prices skyrocketed beyond our expectations.
- Tradition: Send bull calves to the auction barn as a last resort.
- What We Did: Created a farm-to-table beef brand, now generating six figures annually.
Breaking tradition doesn’t mean losing what’s valuable—it means evolving to meet the needs of today’s market and winning big.
So here’s my challenge to you: Be willing to break tradition if it will help your business grow.
At Ranch House Designs, we specialize in helping ranchers and rural businesses take that leap. From online marketing strategies to automating sales processes, we’ve got the tools to help you break tradition and thrive.
